Dorothy’s Scribbles

Alfred and Brenda stretch their long arms to the pile

Labeled ‘A mix of artefacts from Terra’, they smile,

More telepathic thoughts emerge as a sheet

Of bold, scribbled paper curls up at their feet

Long, curved lines of red and blue,

Pieces of green felt tangled up with glue

A wobbly splodge of faded tea paint,

“2 years old” written in a corner, quite faint

‘Master plans for a mother ship!’ thinks Alfred

‘All the main controls and circuits in red’,

‘Self-charging electron boosters in blue,

Advanced Terra engines require no flue!’

‘Terrans must have laboured in 2 year spurts,

Drinking jugs of tea when one’s mind really hurts’

Alfred, then Brenda touched the soft green felt

‘These must be the pieces from the ship’s safe seat belt.’

Brenda moves the scribbled paper to a tray up high

Labeled “Brilliant minds of Terra, no one can buy”

‘Whoever made these plans long ago,

Was pure genius, hard-working and running the show!’
